2010 Here we come

As our friends and family are beginning their festivities back home, we are packing our bags for a weekend trip to Jeju Island.

Jeju is an island to Korea's south. It is about a 40 minute plane ride from Gwangju. Jeju has a huge volcano in the center called Halla Mountain. Supposedly the island was created by volcanic eruptions 2 million years ago. Although most of Korea is based on a patriarcial family structure, Jeju is the opposite. The matriarch of the family is the head breadwinner. Many of them free dive off the coast to collect abalone and conch all year long, without scuba gear, as their job.

There are many tourist sites to see including a statue park, the longest lava tube in the world, tangerine picking and other sites...so we will see what our weekend brings.

Have a safe celebration! Happy New Year

I was a bit surprised to see the new blog layout, but I like it a lot!!

Happy New Year! :)
