Acupuncture

I have been seeing an acupuncturist for about a month now for lets just say, digestive issues. It was something that I wasn't sure I wanted to do, but after the random suggestions from many, I decided to try it. I am right now going to Harmony Wellness Center in Maitland and Christina Prieto is my doctor. She studied medicine at Florida College of Integrative Medicine and did a semester in China as well.

How it works is that they believe that energy flows through the body...which we all know it does. They call it Chi. It flows along several paths or meridian lines throughout your body. When they use the needles, the place them in the skin on certain points that trigger the nervous system to send more energy to certain spots.

In my case, the treatment also has to do with my intestine, stomach and gallbladder...just to name a few. So, the doctor places between 15-20 different needles in different spots around my body (legs, arms, tummy, forehead, toes) to trigger the energy to go to where my body needs it to help with digestion.

The needles are relatively painless...sometimes it sends almost like an electric impulse straight through my toes, but then the feeling goes away. I stay relaxed with some Stephen Harper playing on the ipod. About 25 minutes later, she readjusts the needles a little and then I rest for another 10-15. She is also having me take some natural herbs. Within the first 24 hours I noticed a HUGE difference and over the last three weeks are definitely improving.

So, if you have any annoying pain that wont go away, or are ready to try something new instead of prescription drugs, you may want to give acupuncture a try. Christina also has said that acupuncture is huge on treating infertility, so if this is something that you are dealing with, before dishing over the money for different therapies, you may want to give this a try.
